Adopting A Friend

SPOT is a network of all volunteer foster homes, so we do not have a central facility. We have outreach booths at the following locations:

  • Petco in Mt. Vernon, WA every Saturday from 11 AM to 3 PM.
  • PetSmart in Burlington, WA. We currently have cats and kittens available 7 days per week; adoptions are performed by appointment
  • Petco in Bellingham, WA the 4th weekend of every month from 11 AM to 3 PM.

We also have cats available for adoption at Chuckanut Valley Veterinary Hospital in Burlington, WA (360-757-3722), Mountain View Veterinary Clinic in Mt. Vernon, WA (360-424-4455), and North Cascade Veterinary Hospital in Sedro Woolley, WA (360-856-1809).

The adoption process consists of the following:

If interested in a particular pet listed on Petfinder:
    1. Complete an adoption application  -  online forms are the fastest - applications are available via the links below or print and fax it in.
    - or - contact the foster directly if listed in the notes of the animals description.
    2. Expect to receive a reply to your application within 24-48 hours from an adoption counselor. You may exchange questions about the pet or your application at that time.
    3. If you DO NOT receive a response, please submit the online application again.
    4. The adoption counselor will offer you an opportunity to schedule a meeting with the pet if they feel it is a good match.
This meeting will determine if the placement is in the best interest of everyone involved. We focus on placing the animal in the most suitable home possible.

Once the adoption has been approved, a $110.00 (for cats) or $120-$350** (for dogs) adoption donation is collected.
**Puppies and certain dogs may have a higher adoption fee based on size and breed.

SPOT is taking cash and credit adoption fees at this time. Credit at certain locations only. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

All pets are spayed or neutered and microchipped. Cats are tested for FeLV and FIV and vaccinated for FeLV and FVRCP. Dogs are vaccinated for DHLPPC and Bordatella. The adoption fee also covers deworming, flea treatment, collar and ID tag, info packet, one free dog training session, free vet check with participating veterinarian clinics, and 10 day in-home trial period. If the pet doesn't work out within the trial period, we will try another pet or refund the adoption donation minus a $10.00 administration fee. All cats must leave in a carrier either provided by us or you, and all dogs must leave on a leash.
